In The Shed: Hafco Metalmaster PD-325 Pedestal Drill

The Hafco Metalmaster PD-325 Pedestal Drill (Order Code: D592) is the ideal solution for medium-level duties around the home, in the workshop or even on the farm.

With an overall height of 1580mm, it stands on a thick-walled column 72mm in diameter, which guarantees greater rigidity.

The fan-cooled, copper-wound 1Hp (240V) motor features a magnetic-type safety switch. It’s connected to a quiet V-belt (A-section) drive system with quick-action belt-tensioning lever and lock. There’s a safety micro-switch fitted to the pulley guard.

Twelve spindle speed steps range from 280rpm to 2380rpm. Specifically, they are: 280, 420, 440, 550, 620, 660, 1150, 1180, 1400, 1550, 1830 and 2380rpm.

This pedestal drill from Hafco sports a 40mm quill diameter, 2MT spindle taper with 80mm spindle travel. This is adjusted via a one-piece cast iron drilling lever with comfort grips. There’s an adjustable safety drilling chuck guard, which comes with a clever flip-up screen.

Hafco’s PD-325 includes a 16mm keyed drill chuck and arbor, a chuck key to suit, a drill chuck key holder mounted on the right-side of the machine, plus a drill drift tool to remove drill chuck or taper shank drills.

The slotted, cast iron worktable is round in shape with a 290mm diameter. It tilts left and right to 45º as well as rotates 360º, with a handy scale built in for accurate tuning of the desired angle. Additionally, there’s rack-and-pinion table height adjustment via a crank with locking lever.
